To my fellow do-it-yourselfers, Greetings
My First book entitled "Small Home Building Made Easy" Pictured above/center, is filled with much needed general information for the do-it-yourselfer small home builder. This book offers the beginner do-it-yourself homebuilder important information that I was not given when I first started buying land and building. This book also includes information on how to buy and sell land with owner financing.
The plan books feature one house as indicated by the plan number shown on the cover of the book. Plan 40 was the first of the small homes I built and was the first book I produced featuring a small house plan that can be built by a real do-it-yourselfer. I built the plan 40 house to the shell with just $77 average per weekend for four years not including land and utilities. I moved in during the early part of the third year when the house was about 80 % complete. After four years I would own a completed house that I could either live in or rent. And, of course, this home is now rented and I have moved on to my next project. I describe how I am able to build home after home strictly with cash from a modest income. I have never borrowed money to build anything. I pay as I go. I own as I build. By staying out of debt, I am free to begin the next house as soon as I complete the current one. Banks are getting tighter. Todays economy is uncertain. For those of us who rely on our job, the old way of borrowing on long term to buy a big house with the expectation of a consistant income stream seems to have been reduced to nothing short of gambling.
Building a home with cash is easier than you may think. Using my own system, which I developed for myself as a result of not having good enough credit to get a home loan in the first place, I am able, by myself, to build and then rent a small house about every two to four years which is like giving myself a raise in pay that is mine to keep for life. And the more difficult it is for average folks, like me, to buy and keep a home, the more renters there are out there to keep my homes occupied.
Too bad not everyone knows about my system.
"If it weren't for being able to build a house myself, I'd have no house at all."
As a do-it-yourselfer you have the right to choose what you want and where you want to put it. Other reasons are artful self expression and the joyful feeling of independence. As a do-it-yourselfer you'd probably want to make some changes to personalize the plan just for you anyway. So to that I say; "Go carve yourself a spot in the woods and have fun. I sure did!"
